AP Preseason Poll Released

In the initial poll released by the Assoicated Press Ohio State received 35 first place votes to be the consensus Preseason Number One (USA Today/Coaches Poll #1).

Others receiving first place votes included Notre Dame with 10, Texas with 8, West Virginia with 6, Auburn and USC with 3 each. The teams making up the top five follow the first place votes closely but Auburn edged WVU for the 4th position with USC finishing just behind WVU in 6th.

Cal CB Out for Season

California lost both their starting cornerback and punt returner this past Thursday when Senior Tim Mixon went down with a torn ACL when returning a punt in a Thursday scrimmage.

Mixon went down and left the field on crutches. An MRI revealed the tear.

California Head Coach Jeff Tedford said Mixon wasn't hit, but that, "He just planted and his knee gave out."

Senior Ransy Bundy or RS Freshman Sydquan Thompson will likely replace Mixon.
Bush Announces Departure for NFL Draft

Reggie BushReggie Bush made official today whet many in the college football community had known for weeks; he would forego his senior season and enter the NFL Draft.  

Bush made the announcement earlier this afternoon after teammate Lendale White announced his intentions to declare yesterday.  

With the move, Bush is expected to be drafted with the number one pick by the Houston Texans.  

In addition to Bush and White, USC also lost Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart to graduation from one of the most productive offensive units assembled in years.  

Marcus Vick Permanently Dismissed

In a statement released Friday, Virginia Tech President Charles Steger indicated that, "Virginia Tech quarterback Marcus Vick has been permanently dismissed from the Hokie football program due to a cumulative effect of legal infractions and unsportsmanlike play."  

Vick has indicated he will apply for entry into the NFL draft.

LSU Crushes Lackluster Hurricanes

LSU TigersThe LSU Tigers destroyed a previously number nine Miami team yesterday with RB Joseph Addai leading the way.  Addai rushed for over 100 yards (24/130) and the number ten LSU Tigers pummelled the Hurricanes by the final of 40-3. 

After the game, a small scuffle occured on the way back to the locker room that appeared to be more offense than Miami could muster all evening.
