Evans Vows Return for Big Ten Opener
User Rating: / 0
Lee Evans, Wisconsin's leading receiver, has vowed to return to the team in time for the BigTen conference opener in October.

The Badger star indicated that he has been working six hours a day to rehabilitate his left knee. The knee was injured in the Badgers Spring Game and he underwent surgery in May.

Evanse noted to the press that he is now jogging regularly but still does not have a full range of motion in the knee.

Georgia Tailback Reshard Dudley Fails to Make Grade
User Rating: / 0
Bulldog recruit Reshard Dudley has failed to reach the minimum academic standards set by the NCAA and as a result will not play this fall.

Dudley indicated that he will attend Butler Community College (Kansas) for two seasons, but hopes to retuurn to the Bulldogs thereafter.

"I'm going to go out to Butler for a year and a half... hopefully, I'll re-sign with Georgia in the future."

The news is dissappointing in Georgia where the Bulldogs looks to be a force in the SEC East and to improve on a solid 8-3 record last year. Luckily, the 'Dogs secured the services of two other backs in Tyson Browning of Watkinsville and Michael Cooper of Sylvania. Both were signed in February.

Contrarian Betting - Calling the Dog on the Moneyline

Betting the Moneyline insures that you will never be called a sissy...
Each year college football presents us with some of the most improbable moments in sports. The final two weeks of the 2001 season illustrated this perfectly; Oklahoma State over Oklahoma, Colorado topples Nebraska and Texas, Tennessee falls mighty Florida. And though these all were amazing upsets, and their impact was almost universally felt, in this brief column, I would like to focus your attention on ten games which comprise our contrarian bettors best bets for 2002.

Contrarian Pick - Week Four
User Rating: / 0
Welcome to week four of "Contrarian Picks.” Contrarian picks are 2 of 3 on the year with a narrow miss last week as Tulane fell to ECU 24-20. Hopefully we can improve on the 67% with this weeks pick so let’s get into it.

If you are unfamiliar with what a Contrarian pick is, or wonder why you might want to bet one, please take a look at this article as a primer:

Contrarian Betting - Calling the Dog on the Moneyline

Let’s take a look at what we have this week:

Northwestern +135
Arizona +175
LaTech +600
Wake +350
Notre Dame +125
Colorado +400
Florida +150
BYU +350
USC +120
Rice +230
Air Force +350
Fresno St. +400
SMiss +230
Tulsa +400
Temple +500
Central Florida +350

We have a decent slate of games this week to choose from, though I would have liked to see a line for CMU over Indiana, Tulane Memphis, or Idaho SDSU. (Keep an eye out if you can find a line for either and get good value.) After a cursory look, I like UA, UND, CU, USC, and Rice. Of these, UND and USC are below the threshold of what I usually consider for a “contrarian” bet (+150). I still like them, but on the sheer basis of value, we will pick a few “longer” shots this week. That said, here’s what we are considering:

UA +175
CU +400
Rice +230

This is a rough line-up this week as a number of the bets I was hoping to see did not have a line as we go to press. Arizona has looked solid if unspectacular this season and Johnson is coming along very well at QB. Additionally, Wisconsin has played mediocre at best this season barely edging NIU and having fits with Fresno State. Colorado was a preseason number six and has just had the wheels fall off early. They shot themselves in the foot several times last week against USC and need a much better game this week if they hope to win. I think UCLA will win but I am not too terribly impressed by them yet. (I will likely bet this one this weekend just because of the huge line value here. Four to one is substantial and I think CU beats UCLA 50% of the time.) Finally, Rice should play Nevada close with Nevada star RB C. Kretschmer our with a knee injury though the Pack has a slight edge with the home field.

With the above noted, I’ll take Arizona to “Bear Down” and send the Badgers to their first defeat.

Check back next Friday for the next edition of Contrarian Picks and drop by the "About Us" page next Monday to see how all of our picks fared.
