College Athletes Should be Paid

Pay College AthletesAs you sit back in your easy chair this coming weekend for the first full Saturday of college football action, take a close look at the players running onto the field.  If you look closely you'll notice the Nike Swoosh on their jersey.  Or the fact that the whole of the team is sporting the same Adidas shoes.  The players are walking billboards for a variety of corporations and they deserve some of the revenue then generate by their efforts.

Each week these student atheltes are shown across national television wearing the latest outfits from Nike, carried in the latest bag from Reebok, while walking in the latest shoes from Adidas.  You'll see them shine the helmet visor by Oakley on their officially sanctioned Adams helmet.

Purdue, Your National Champion?

Purdue National Champions? This year the Purdue Boliermakers could prove to be a Cinderella team. After a three game stint with Minnesota, Notre Dame, and a tough #10 Iowa, Purdue should prove to be the favorite over the rest of their opponents throughout the season.  Skipping Ohio State and Michigan on the schedule, allows the Boilers a great shot at a Big Ten Championship and potentially more.

Purdue returns all 11 defensive starters and despite losing quarterback, Kyle Orton, (fourth round, Chicago Bears) and Big Ten all-time receptions leader, Taylor Stubblefield, Purdue's offense should prove to be much better than average

Vegas Vina's, What I Think

Welcome to the inaugural issue of "What I Think" where I'll engage you in a myriad flight of whimsy through my mind as it pertains to the world of college football....  hopefully we won't get too lost.....  but before we begin, a few disclaimers....

I'm a college football fan.... not a referee, not a coach, not a player, and definitely not anyone who takes myself all that seriously.... So please don't fire off sundry emails telling me how little I know about the game, or about refereeing, or about whatever.... I know... I concede as much.... I don't know all there is to know about college football.... but hell, I'm a girl.... how much can you expect.....

2005 Heisman Hopefuls

Article Courtesy of http://www.nfldraftforecast.com

Here is a list of the players that I think have the best chance to win the Heisman trophy this year.

1) Vincent Young

Without question I think Young is the front runner for the Heisman. He carried Texas to a great Rose Bowl victory last season and expect even more this year. With his combination of running and passing skills, Young is a hard player to beat because he has the ball in his hands almost on every play. And with the departure of Cedric Benson to the NFL Young will get even more chances to have the ball in his hands to make plays. Look for big things out of him this year.

2) Adrian Peterson

Peterson is another good pick because of his dominating play at RB. He is easily one of the best RB's in the nation and will be the player to carry the Oklahoma football team this year since so many players have left for the NFL. If he has a big season and Oklahoma stays at or near the top of the college football rankings he could very well walk away with the Heisman.

The Problem With College Football

I consider myself to be a religious follower of College Football. I would rather watch four games every Saturday, consisting of teams I don't consider myself a fan of, than watch my favorite NFL team take the gridiron against their most hated rivals. I truly am a College Football Fanatic, ask my wife; she will be the first to acknowledge this.

So why is it that I can love something so much, yet be so frustrated with it? Think of the sport as a project. A massive undertaking by various powers that be, and I just happen to be observing their progress.
