Previous Week Overview:
I am not the least bit surprised over Georgia Tech's win. In fact, I told all of you that Auburn would have a very tough time replacing its leaders and that Tech had done very well on the road last year. I was half right about Georgia as they scored points all day long AND put up an impressive defense against one of the nations more prolific offenses. Florida won comfortably but I was right about Wyoming staying on the good side of the margin in my first Team Of The Week prediction (more on that later)

Other Notes: Alabama's defense started where it left off from last season with a solid effort and my "overrated team of the year" - Tennessee - came up with the expected performance barely getting by an outmanned UAB team. This Weeks Action: (All times Eastern)

Game Of The Week

9:15 PM LSU at Arizona State: You've got to feel sorry for LSU. This season is not starting out well at all. Distractions have been non-stop and now they have to travel instead of playing at home. Not only that but they must travel to Arizona State who simply swept the board at home last season including a trouncing of top 10 team Iowa. The desert team also has a game under its belt in a destruction of hapless Temple. It appears that its going to be a long night for LSU.

Conference Matchups

12:30 PM Mississippi St. at Auburn: Conference play officially gets underway as Auburn tries to rebound after a very tough game. It's already must win time for Auburn as they have a brutal road schedule ahead. Look for Auburn be able to take this one comfortably as Mississippi St. just doesn't have the guns to match up. The Auburn defense should control the game and keep Mississippi off the scoreboard.

MISSISSIPPI ST 7

AUBURN 38

5:30 PM South Carolina at Georgia: An impressive win to say the least for Georgia last week as they dismantled Boise State. The game was over almost as soon as it begun as Georgia jumped out to a 24-0 halftime lead and went on cruise control from there. Meanwhile, it wasn't quite the same outcome for South Carolina. Jumping out to a 14-0 lead early in the first quarter, it looked as though Spurrier and company were about to break it open but Central Florida clawed back and made a game of it. Look for things to pick up where they left off for both teams as Georgia continues to impress.

SOUTH CAROLINA 10

GEORGIA 35

7:00 PM Vanderbilt at Arkansas: Vandy got a surprising road win last week as they pulled it out late over Wake Forest. Leading most of the way, Vandy allowed Wake to take the lead in the 4th quarter before the game winner late. Meanwhile, Arkansas took on Missouri State in a tune up. Look for Vandy to continue to play well but find Arkansas at home just too much to handle as the Razorbacks pull out a surprisingly close game.

VANDERBILT 24

ARKANSAS 28

Non-Conference Matchups

6:00 PM Louisiana Tech at Florida: A tough start for La Tech as they travel to Gator Country to meet the new look Gators. Expect a similar effort as last week from Florida as they jumped off to a 23-0 lead and cruised against a good Wyoming team. Tech isn't as good so I look for it to get out of hand early.

LOUISIANA TECH 10

FLORIDA 48

6:00 PM Idaho State at Kentucky: This would be a tune up for anyone other than Kentucky, a team known for its ugly losses. Kentucky showed some heart battling back from a 28-7 deficit and making a close game of it verses Louisville. Not much is known about Idaho State other than the whipping they put on equally unknown Southern Utah. I expect Kentucky to pick it up from the end of the Louisville game and score enough points to win comfortably.

Idaho State 20

KENTUCKY 41

7:45 PM Southern Miss at Alabama: This would be a better matchup if not for all the distractions Southern Miss. is having these days. The cancellation of their game verses Tulane is a major factor as they head into Tuscaloosa as its been proven that a team with a game under its belt is at an advantage over a team in its first game. Add to the fact that USM takes on one of the nations best defenses in its opener and its looking like a long day for the Black and Gold. Alabama played a typical game on defense last week giving up only 157 total yards and recording a safety for its first score of the year.

SOUTHERN MISS 3

ALABAMA 23

Tennessee idle

Mississippi idle

Team Of The Week

Week 1 Wyoming +24 over Florida Win

Wyoming had just enough to cover this huge spread as we called for last week. This week the choice is for Arizona State to win outright over LSU for reasons stated earlier and that's enough to make the margin.
