SEC FootballPrevious Week Overview: What a game! I told you Tennessee would find a way to pull off a big win but not even I thought they could come back from such a huge deficit. LSU came out like the "other" Rose Bowl team with an incredible performance but Tennessee dug in and outplayed LSU in the 4th quarter. The win gives Tennessee new life in the SEC title picture and puts a serious dent in LSU's national title plans.

In other action, the Tide continues to roll with a convincing win over Arkansas 24-13. Once again the highly ranked Alabama defense dictated the tempo and pace of the game and an efficient offense did the rest. The Tide are now 4-0 and lead the SEC West. It was mostly tune up time for the SEC powers and even not so powerful's. Vanderbilt is the surprise of the nation at 4-0 with an easy win over Richmond. If anything, these wins give Vanderbilt confidence when they head into the meat of their schedule.

This Weeks Action: (All times Eastern)

Game Of The Week

3:30 PM Florida at Alabama: When the year started I told you about Alabama and now this team has become a major factor in the SEC title race. This team has been strong all year now that they are reasonably healthy. But they are going to need everyone when Florida comes to town. Their defense has matched Alabama's especially in winning the Tennessee game. But I believe that the Bama defense can control Florida and create turnovers in front of the home crowd and that's going to prove the difference in a very close battle

Florida             13
Alabama          21

Conference Matchups

12:30 PM Mississippi at Tennessee: This would be a down game for Tennessee considering the emotions and the short week leading into this game other than the fact that the opponent is hapless Mississippi. We all know about Tennessee and what they have to offer this week but little is known about Ole Miss for the simple reason that they are not very good. Last week's home loss to Wyoming proves that conclusion out. Make the score closer than expected because of a let down.

Mississippi       14
Tennessee       26

2:30 PM LSU at Mississippi St.: Another team that could suffer a letdown from Monday's game is LSU. They have got to be very disappointed heading into Starkville. This is a very tricky call to make but Mississippi St. is not a very good football team. They were dominated by Georgia last week getting a late meaningless touchdown to make the score closer than it looked. I don't expect them to generate much more offense against a supremely talented LSU squad.

LSU                 23
Mississippi St   7

7:00 PM South Carolina at Auburn: Auburn finally heads into the land of competition this week against the Gamecocks. How good is Auburn? I don't think we know since they haven't beaten anyone of consequence yet. South Carolina isn't a great team but they can play some good football at times giving Georgia all they could handle earlier. Something tells me "upset" here if it wasn't for Auburn playing in front of its home crowd. Look for this to go right down to the wire.

S. Carolina      21
Auburn             24

Non-Conference Matchups

2 7:00 PM Middle Tenn. St. at Vanderbilt: Vanderbilt continues to play well and take advantage of their schedule and this week they get a very weak Middle Tennessee team. The Commodores took care of business against Richmond while MTSU has looked absolutely abysmal scoring only 7 points in each of its 3 games losing to the likes of N. Texas and Akron. Lets give them a 4th straight 7 point game then.

Middle Ten St  7
Vanderbilt        27

Team Of The Week

Week 1 Wyoming +24 over Florida Win
Week 2
Arizona State -1 over LSU Loss
Week 3
Tennessee +6 over Florida Loss
Week 4
Tennessee +7 over LSU Win

It was agonizing to watch but the Vols came storming back late to get the cover. It certainly was time for the luck to change after 2 straight tough losses I thought should not have taken place. So where do we head this week? Let's try Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. South Carolina has been competitive for the most part and with Auburn tuning up against some seriously lesser opponents I see an evenly matched game. Don't be fooled by the scores in those latest Auburn wins. They just haven't been tested enough of late. Take South Carolina and the 14 points.
