Previous Week Overview:
As I told you in my SEC Preview, Alabama will be a major factor in this year's SEC race. I received numerous email's because of that selection few of which were favorable. Well, now the pick has come to fruition as Alabama played an absolutely outstanding football game in its destruction of previously unbeaten Florida. The only thing that went wrong was the injury to outstanding game breaker Prothro. It would be a shame if that injury is what holds this team back from winning the SEC title.

In other action, the clock struck 12 for Vanderbilt as they were shocked by previously winless Middle Tennessee State 17-15. It was a nice run for Vandy but they really needed this win if they were thinking of going bowling this year. It now appears certain that their only possible remaining win is against Kentucky. Auburn moved forward with another blowout win this time over outmanned South Carolina which was playing without its starting QB Mitchell.

This Weeks Action:
(All times Eastern)

Game Of The Week
3:30 PM Georgia at Tennessee: It's SEC East leader Georgia's turn to step up to the plate with its first big game of the year at Tennessee. The big question coming into this game is can Clausen duplicate his performance from the LSU game. A foot injury doesn't help matters. Georgia hasn't been tested so we don't really know what they have yet. The Tennessee defense has improved slightly from last season and with a huge home crowd to support them I've got to believe Tennessee will rally for a game they must win. Expect the SEC East to tighten up.

Georgia           14
Tennessee       17

Conference Matchups
12:30 PM Mississippi St. at Florida: Talk about going from the penthouse to the outhouse. The positive talk about Meyer and the Gators was endless leading into what was an expected win over Alabama. Now, that talk has taken a 180 with Meyer getting a lot of criticism for not being properly prepared. Welcome to the SEC. Can the Gators recover? The answer is an emphatic "yes" as they get the perfect remedy in a home game against Mississippi State. Expect the Florida defense to come back to life against a MSU offense that continues to sputter.

Mississippi St   7
Florida             45

1:00 PM Kentucky at South Carolina: South Carolina had all kinds of problems with fired up Auburn last week. The QB change didn't work out and without any offense the Gamecocks were doomed. Thankfully, they are home against Kentucky this week. The Cats are quickly heading toward last place in the conference with little to offer against most SEC teams.

Kentucky         13
S. Carolina
      31

7:00 PM LSU at Vanderbilt: It would seem to be too much to ask Vanderbilt to recover from its shocking loss at home last week and be competitive against talented LSU. The Tigers proved it could bounce back from the Tennessee loss by trouncing Miss. State. I completely expect a let down at Vanderbilt and a similar beating to take place this week.

LSU                  42
Vanderbilt        10

Non-Conference Matchups
2:00 PM The Citadel at Mississippi: Mississippi gets a much needed tune up as The Citadel comes to town. Ole Miss stayed competitive against a very good Tennessee team and they should be able to build on that this week. Micheal Spurlock should start at QB despite some injuries and that should lead to plenty of points. The Ole Miss defense, which was solid last week, will do the rest.

The Citadel      7
Mississippi       34

7:00 PM Louisiana Monroe at Arkansas: Sun Belt "leader" LA - Monroe comes into Arkansas off two straight close conference wins. Unfortunately for them, they've been stomped in their 3 out of conference games. Make that 4 stompings as Arkansas is hungry for a victory after 3 straight losses. If you're looking for any surprise in this one you better look elsewhere.

LA-Monroe       7
Arkansas          47

Team Of The Week:  LSU

Week 1 Wyoming +24 over Florida Win
Week 2
Arizona State -1 over LSU Loss
Week 3
Tennessee +6 over Florida Loss
Week 4
Tennessee +7 over LSU Win
Week 5
South Carolina +14 over Auburn Loss

I fully admit to being stupid last week in my selection of South Carolina. I blame only myself for not finding out that Mitchell was not going to start at QB. Any thoughts of covering this game came to an end after watching a fired up Auburn stick the runner on the opening kickoff. There was no excuse for passing up Alabama as my pick of the week. This week I look at the board and see no surprises coming as most games appear to be very lopsided matchups. I can't make anything out of the Georgia-Tennessee game other than it's a must win for the Vols. Therefore, I am going to go with the LSU Tigers as my selection of the week. Vandy took a major blow to its hopes last week and I can't see them recovering mentally in time to take on the talented Tigers. Look for a blowout similar to LSU's game last week and give the 16 points.
