As the ACC season begins to wind down, three major upsets in the ACC shake things up at the top of the divisions. With losses by Virginia Tech, Florida State, and Boston College, things begin to open up for a few teams in the middle of the pack, and hope begins to find its way to a few teams that formerly had little. Two teams are now tied at the top of the Coastal Division, and two teams sit within one game.

In the Atlantic Division, Florida State remains at the top, but two teams remain within a game of them and look to breathe down their neck. Let's take a peek into the ACC in week 10 and find out what happened and what it means for the remaining three weeks of college football action.

In the first game of the weekend, Boston College traveled to North Carolina, and received a rude welcome from the Tar Heels in Chapel Hill. UNC finally finished a great game by their defense, and the offense played well enough to come away with a victory, thanks to a wonderful day rushing by McGill, who ran 20 times for 83 yards, and helped the Tar Heels control the ball and the game. The loss keeps the Eagles out of a tie for first place, and quite possibly keeps them out of a title shot at the end of this season. The win for UNC is huge, as it keeps them in position to make a splash in the ACC. At 3-2, and only a loss behind both Virginia Tech and Miami, anything can still happen for these Tar Heels, but they will have to continue winning. If they can get to six wins to qualify for a bowl, their great ACC record will go a long way towards what bowl they find themselves in.

Right now it is looking like the Atlantic Division will only send Boston College and Florida State to bowls, so the Coastal Division is wide open for bowls. In a game that didn't really mean too much for either team, Duke traveled to Clemson and got blown out by the Tigers in Death Valley. The victory gives Clemson an outside chance to have a postseason, but with such a poor Conference record, that might not happen. Duke has been out of bowl contention for quite some time, and the loss leaves them at 0-7 in the ACC, and 1-9 overall, and they will finish with another disappointing season for their fans. Clemson still has hope, but things still look fairly dismal for them. This game was really pretty pointless, and the win for Clemson was academic at this point.

In Georgia Tech, the Yellow Jackets defeated the visiting Wake Forest Demon Deacons by a score of 30-17, which leaves them in a good position heading into the final three weeks. The win puts Georgia Tech at a very good 4-2 in the ACC, and still gives them a chance to catch both Virginia Tech and Miami as the season winds down. A loss would have been devastating for the Yellow Jackets, but now with a 6-2 record overall, they look primed to finish in third in the ACC and make it to a solid bowl game. Georgia Tech still has an outside chance at the top of this division, but right now they are looking to win some games and solidify their third spot behind two of the top 10 teams in the nation. The loss takes Wake Forest out of contention in the Atlantic Division, and with a 4-6 record overall, they will not be making a bowl appearance this year. The loss basically puts them in the role of spoiler for the rest of the year, and they will look to do so as they play Miami next week.

There is still a lot to be figured out at the top of the Coastal Division, and a win for the Yellow Jackets puts them right in the thick of the action. In the second big upset of the weekend, NC State traveled to Tallahassee and defeated Florida State by the tune of 20-15. While the win doesn't do anything for the Wolfpack as they sit at 2-4 in the Conference, the loss is devastating for Florida State and the winner of the Coastal Division. The loss will drop the Seminoles in the top 25, and puts them at a mediocre 5-2 for the top of the Atlantic Division. Their 7-2 overall record is solid, but a loss to NC State doesn't say much for their record. Their only remaining shot at a BCS bowl is to win the ACC, which will be a difficult task no matter who they end up facing in the ACC Championship game. With a win, Florida State would have wrapped up the Atlantic Division, but now they face a little bit of danger as the season finishes. The division remains in their hands, and a win next week against Clemson should wrap it up for this team.

In a game that didn't really mean much in the ACC, Virginia hosted Temple and left the visitors angry at whoever made their schedule as the Cavaliers ran away with a 51-3 victory. The Cavs now sit at a very respectable 5-3 overall, but they will need some wins in the ACC to improve their 2-3 Conference record. Virginia hopes that this big victory will be able to help them build momentum as they head into some extremely important ACC matchups in the rest of the year. They still have much to prove, and still have an outside shot at making a name for themselves in the Coastal Division, but it will take some huge wins, starting with their matchup against Georgia Tech this week.

In the last game of the weekend, and what can be technically called an upset, Miami traveled to Blacksburg and defeated Virginia Tech at home 27-7, ending the Hokies undefeated season and plans for a National Championship game. For the first time this season, Tech could not rely on their defense, and Marcus Vick could not ride the rest of the team for a victory. Miami's defense shut down the most overrated offense in the country, and finally proved who the power in the ACC is. The victory puts the Hurricanes in the drivers seat for the Atlantic Division, and they control their own destiny the rest of the way. They will attempt to move one step closer to securing their position as they face giant-killer NC State next week. The loss makes Virginia Tech take a step back, and they will have an off-week to think about the end of the season as they still look for an outside shot at a BCS bowl and the top of the Coastal Division. The Hokies will have to hope that Vick's confidence was not shaken, as a meltdown from him could mean the end of the season for this team.

There is still a lot to be decided in the ACC, and with some more major upsets, things could become very interesting as the rest of this year plays out. These final three weeks are going to be very exciting, and it may not be decided until the final whistle blows.
