SEC FootballPrevious Week Overview: It was the calm before the storm last week as no major events took place that altered the status quo. Conference best and undefeated Alabama put on a superior defensive display in its domination of Mississippi State. The Tide are now poised to play in what is essentially the SEC West title game at home against LSU.

In other action, South Carolina continues to win games as it makes a bid to move into the upper echelon of the conference. It sets up an intriguing matchup this week as the Gamecocks are at home against Florida. The winner will move into prime bowl contention. Finally, our favorite whipping boys, those overrated, underachieving Vols, came through as expected against Notre Dame as they were drubbed by 20 points.

This Weeks Action: (All times Eastern)

Game Of The Week
3:30 PM #5 LSU at #4 Alabama: Maybe the game of the year as the two best teams in the conference square off in Tuscaloosa. The Alabama defense continues to get stronger each week putting on a classical clinic against Mississippi State. They have now held both powerhouses Florida and Tennessee to 3 points each. There is no doubt this unit is going to have to come up big again if Alabama is going to win this week. LSU brings a very good team into this game only losing once this season. But LSU has faced very questionable non conference opposition the last 2 weeks while giving up yards and points against the conferences elite. Home field and superior defense will win out as Alabama gets the key turnovers and turns this into a rout.

LSU                 10
Alabama          31

Conference Matchups
12:30 PM #12 Florida at South Carolina: The game that Steve Spurrier secretly circled on his calendar is finally here as the Florida Gators come to town. Not only is the game big for the obvious reasons but Carolina has vaulted to a 6-3 record winning its last 4 games and now is primed to make a serious bid for a decent bowl game. The defense has improved greatly the last 2 weeks and that and a home crowd is going to help them stay close. Unfortunately, the Gators have just enough of a talent edge to overcome that. Look for a close, low scoring game throughout.

Florida             17
S. Carolina      10

2:00 PM Arkansas at Mississippi: Another game of low scoring proportions takes place as Arkansas heads into Oxford. Don't expect many fireworks from these teams as the winner attempts to escape the SEC West cellar. Look for Mississippi to use its home field and decent defense to come up with the win

Arkansas          17
Mississippi       21

2:00 PM Kentucky at Vanderbilt: Vandy battles for its bowl life this week as they are in a must win situation against Kentucky. Vandy has been the surprise of the conference as they have competed against all the top teams this year. Last week they appeared to be headed for a major upset of Florida until a questionable call set them back. As for Kentucky its just another season living in the SEC East cellar. Look for Vandy to come out smoking as they take a high powered offense in a game against a team that has come up short all season.

Kentucky          13
Vanderbilt        42

7:45 PM #15 Auburn at #9 Georgia: One of the biggest games of the season takes place as Auburn heads into Sanford Stadium. Auburn has only gotten better since their opening game defeat at the hands of Georgia Tech. The game hinges on the return of Georgia QB D.J. Shockley. If he returns to form look for Georgia to regain its winning ways as they play solid enough defense to shut down a potent Auburn running game. Georgia wins by more than expected as they head towards the SEC East crown.

Auburn             10
Georgia           24

Non-Conference Matchups
2:00 PM Memphis at Tennessee: Memphis heads into Knoxville for its annual in state battle with the nations most overrated team. Once again odds makers are turning a blind eye toward a team that has stumbled its way through the season. Memphis has regularly kept this game close even when Tennessee has fielded good teams. Look for another close one and a possible upset depending on how interested the Vols are in finishing out a dismal season.

Memphis          24
Tennessee       30

Team Of The Week
Week 1 Wyoming +24 over Florida Win
Week 2
Arizona State -1 over LSU Loss
Week 3
Tennessee +6 over Florida Loss
Week 4
Tennessee +7 over LSU Win
Week 5
South Carolina +14 over Auburn Loss
Week 6 LSU -16 over Vanderbilt Win
Week 7
Florida +6 over LSU Win
Week 8 Bye Week
Week 9
Auburn -20 over Mississippi Win
Week 10 Notre Dame -8 over
Tennessee Win

The hot streak continues as I am a healthy 6-3 winning the last 4 weeks. Last week was like taking candy as Tennessee continues to disgrace itself. This week I see a lot to pick from but when it comes down to it I am going to go with the Vandy Commodores as they shred an overmatched Kentucky team at home in its quest to get to a bowl game. Vandy has been impressive even in its close losses as Kentucky has been its usual selves as they occupy the SEC East cellar. Go with Vandy and give the 11 ½ points.
